Seattle Staycation

For our one year anniversary, Alex and I decided to do a mini staycation in Seattle to celebrate. We spent two days being tourists in our own city and had so much fun!

Monday morning we got up early and headed to Maltby Cafe. If you have never been there, you ABSOLUTELY need to. For the past 25 years they have won Best Breakfast place in Evening Magazines Best of Western Washington, and for good reason. They are a family run business out of Snohomish and have the cutest little hole-in-the-wall restaurant under an old school house. Everything is home cooked and from family recipes, but their signature food is their cinnamon roll. I'm not even kidding when I say they are basically the size of my face haha! If you are ever in the area this is a definite must see.

Our next stop was the Seattle Aquarium (like I said, tourists in our own city haha) Since it was a Monday it wasn't busy so we had a nice time leisurely walking around the museum. Both Alex and I are suckers for museums so we enjoyed listening to the presentations, reading the information cards, and enjoying something we both love together. It's not a very big museum and you could probably do it in about an hour, but it is a definite must see if you are ever visiting Seattle.

After we had walked through the museum we had a few hours to kill before checking into our hotel and getting ready for dinner. We decided to head to the Museum of Flight, another Seattle must-see. Alex had never been to this museum (I was shocked, I thought all elementary schools went there for field trips lol) so he really enjoyed looking at all of the exhibits.

As much as we loved going to these museums, we kept laughing at how different we are! I love to quickly walk through exhibits and stop to read things that catch my eye. Alex however loves to read every single plaque and spend ten minutes looking at each artifact. We kept teasing each other the whole day and I think that was part of why we enjoyed the museums so much.

After a full afternoon we headed to check into our hotel. We stayed at the Kimpton Alexis hotel in Seattle, which is actually the same hotel we stayed at on our wedding night! We wanted to have a piece of our wedding day be a part of our celebration. If you are ever in need of a beautiful high end hotel, I cannot recommend this place enough. Our room was absolutely beautiful and the service was excellent. Since we stayed there for our wedding night and were back for our anniversary, they left us champagne and chocolates in our room along with a sweet note welcoming us back. Alex and I are also members with their rewards program so we also received a bar credit for the Bookstore Bar + Cafe, a very chic restaurant attached to the hotel.

For dinner we decided to stick with the theme of celebrating our relationship. So, instead of trying a new restaurant, we decided to go to the The Melting Pot in Seattle, the same place we went to celebrate our first year of dating.  We enjoyed an amazing fondue dinner and the staff helped us celebrate with a special dessert at the end. The Melting Pot is truly an amazing place to eat and it is just as much about the experience as the food. It took us about two hours to eat dinner and it was the perfect time to sit, talk, and reflect over this past year. I would recommend it to anyone who has never been before.

On Tuesday morning, we slept in a bit and then headed out for breakfast at The London Plane. Check out my last blog post on a must see spot in Pioneer Square!

Cheers!
