Fisher Lake Backpacking Trip


As much as I love fashion, city living, and all things girly, I am 100% an outdoors girl and would pick camping over hotels almost every time. So when my Dad said that he was planning a backpacking trip for this summer I was allll over it! 

It had been a long time since I had gone on a backpacking trip so I asked lots of questions and did plenty of research on the essentials. I've made a "How-To" guide for packing and all of the essentials that you will need, as well as what to leave at home! Check that out under my Lifestyle tab!

We (my husband, parents, brothers, and our four pups) left on Thursday afternoon for the Tonga Ridge trailhead. We had THE perfect weather and since we didn't start hiking until early evening, the temperature wasn't too bad. It took us about 2 1/2  hours to make it to Sawyer Pass, which is where we ended up setting up camp. We had originally planned on hiking all the way in to Fisher Lake but we were almost out of daylight when we got to the pass so we opted to head there the next morning. We camped in an open meadow right off the trail close to Deception Creek where we got most of our water for the weekend. 

On Friday morning, we got up early, had breakfast, and decided to leave our camp set up and just take a morning hike to the lake. Because of the snow melt, the beginning of the trail was basically just a creek that was mucky and marshy and by the time the trail had finally opened up, no one had dry shoes haha! We had to really search for the trail since it hadn't been kept up over the winter and I don't think many people had hiked it recently. It was marked with orange and pink tags when the trail got dicey so if you are wanting to try it out it is marked for you.

I am so glad that the first time we hiked it we didn't have our packs because most of the elevation gain was straight up the ridge and I don't know if I would have made it the whole way! But you guys, it was so worth it! The lake was absolutely breathtaking and well worth the hard hike. 

We ended up hiking back to our camp on Friday and spent the day reading, playing games, and taking time to rest. We didn't have service and it was SO refreshing to not have the ability to be check our phones. We were completely unplugged and it was amazing how it sparked more conversation, laughs, and JOY. It was much needed and I would encourage everyone to take a trip that forces you to unplug. 

On Saturday we got up, packed up our day packs, and headed to the lake for the day to swim, relax, play games, and enjoy being bug free haha the mosquitoes were UNREAL. It was actually pretty miserable being covered in bug bites and having no relief from the swarms that were everywhere! Luckily they weren't bad at all at the lake because of the heat and the nice breeze we had off of the water so we definitely savored that! 

When we got back to camp on Saturday evening, even though we were supposed to stay until Sunday, we decided that since the bugs were so bad we would eat dinner and then pack up and head out. We were on the trail by 7:30pm and got back to the trail head by 9:15pm, in just enough time to see the sunset! All in all, it was an amazing trip and I would do it again in a heartbeat (minus the bugs lol!)
